Judge Fogel is Executive Director of the Berkeley Judicial Institute at UC Berkeley Law School, former federal judge for the Northern District of California and immediate past Director of the Federal Judicial Center. In addition to his twenty years of federal judicial service, Judge Fogel also served as a judge of the Santa Clara County (California) Superior (1986-1998) and Municipal (1981-1986) Courts.
He has received numerous accolades, including the President’s Award for Outstanding Service to the California Judiciary from the California Judges Association and the Vanguard Award from the State Bar of California for notable contributions to intellectual property law.
John Witchel is an advisor to Legalist and is the former president of web development firm Xcom and cofounder of peer-to-peer lending marketplace Prosper, which has raised $350 million in funding at a valuation of more than $1.9 billion. John has led technical teams for over 20+ years and is currently the President/COO of Gitprime.
William von Mueffling is an advisor to Legalist and is president of Cantillon Capital Management, an investment firm with more than $13 billion under management. Mr. von Mueffling was previously a managing director at Lazard Asset Management, where he was responsible for hedge funds. Prior to joining Lazard, he was with Deutsche Bank in Germany and France.
He earned a BA from Columbia College and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Darci Matovich is an Investment Manager who leads Legalist’s investments into meritorious claims. Darci has a knack for helping others and prides herself in taking great care in the work she does. When she is not facilitating funding for attorneys and clients, she loves being humbled by the great outdoors with her family. From mountain biking to golf, they enjoy it all.
Darci holds B.S. from the University of Montana.
Garrett Ward is an Investment Manager who leads Legalist's investments into Government Receivables. Born in Oklahoma, he is a former landman with several years of experience in oil and gas as well as international sales and logistics experience.
Garrett attended the University of Oklahoma and received a dual major in Finance and Energy Management.
Heather is an Investment Manager who leads Leagalist's investments into meritorious claims. Focused on Legalist’s debtor-in-possession financing service, she takes pride in helping distressed businesses obtain funds that will lead them towards a solution. When she’s not facilitating funding for debtors, she enjoys surfing, diving, and hiking.
Heather received a B.A. in Advertising from the University of South Carolina.
Hunter Day is an Investment Manager who leads Legalist's investments into meritorious claims. When he's not helping attorneys and clients get funded, he loves hiking, photography, and the outdoors. Previously, he served as regional business development lead for physicians in Western Montana, Utah, and Wyoming for various medical devices in the orthopedic and sterile processing fields.
Hunter holds a B.A. from the University of Montana.
Jameson Morton is an Investments Lead at Legalist focused on the Litigation Finance side of the business. Jameson is a proud life-long Montanan, and has more than a decade of strong sales and client service experience. When he's not at work assisting his team fund lawsuits, he enjoys the great outdoors -- especially golf and spending time in the backcountry -- and spending time with his wife and their adorable Goldendoodle.
Jameson holds a B.S. from the University of Montana.
Phoebe Weissblum is an Investment Manager who is passionate about connecting meritorious cases to the funding they need. Before joining Legalist, she was a paralegal at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernstein and Loewy and a sales representative in the Fashion industry.
When not in the office, she enjoys reading, entertaining, and keeping up-to-date on the latest innovations in Tech.
Zach is an Investments Lead who leads Legalist's investments into meritorious claims. Originally from Michigan, Zach was born and raised in the Detroit suburbs. When he’s not helping attorneys fund their mass torts, he enjoys playing with his St. Bernard, Hodor and Corgi, Jules.
Zach received a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Philosophy from Western Michigan University.
Amer works as a software engineer at Legalist where he specializes in backend development and database architecture. Amer built a new ETL pipeline which tracks cases for a unique strategy that Legalist pursued.
Amer holds a MSc in Information Security from University College London (UCL).
Frans Delaye works as a data engineer at Legalist. He specializes in building big data architectures and ELT pipelines at scale and always seeks to provide and build the right tools for a successful data driven strategy. Prior working at Legalist Frans successfully spent three years building a cloud data platform from ground up for one of the top french industrial leaders.
Frans holds an M.Eng in Big Data from ESEO french engineering school. He is also 5X AWS Certified.
Originally from Lebanon, Joe Haddad works as Software Engineering Lead where he manages Legalist's systems and database architecture. Joe has five years of experience working with software solutions and formerly worked as a developer at Anghami, dubbed the "Spotify of the Middle East".
Joe holds a B.Eng. in Computer and Communication from the American University of Beirut.
Murray Love is Director of Product at Legalist. He leads the organization's product vision, innovation, and development. He brings a decade of experience across the technology and capital markets space.
Prior to his role, he founded and scaled an A.I. FinTech start-up across multiple countries over the past 6+ years. His early career was spent working across Manulife Securities, performing multi-stakeholder diplomatic relations for the Embassy of Canada to Austria, and assisting with $1B+ M&A activities with Glencore. In his free time, he advises multiple startups and assists start-up accelerators.
He is also a graduate of the University of Waterloo.
Qile Wangworks as a software engineer at Legalist, where he focuses on product minded engineering and communications. Prior to joining Legalist, Qile worked on a variety of his own ventures, specializing in a combination of software engineering and operations work.
Qile holds a B.ASc in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
Andrew Campbell is Legalist's LFA Lead. He started his legal career as a litigator before transitioning to policy work focused on improving public health. More recently, he worked in business development/sales in the legal tech startup space.
Andrew holds a BS in journalism from West Virginia University; JD from Villanova University School of Law; and MBA from Temple University's Fox School of Business.
Michael serves as Finance Controller at Legalist, where he undertakes various aspects of the firm's financial management. Prior to joining Legalist, Mike worked as a corporate banking analyst at Frost Bank in Dallas, TX for 2 years.
Mike holds a B.S. in Finance & Economics from Liberty University, and is also a CFA Level III Candidate.
Michael Li is Director of Finance and Chief Compliance Officer at Legalist.
He was previously controller at MGG Investment Group (via services provided by Constellation Advisors LLC), where he was responsible for various accounting, operations, legal and investor relations functions. Prior to that he was the controller at Cowen Investment Management. He started his career at Ernst & Young LLP within their Financial Services Office Assurance practice.
Michael received his Master of Science in Accounting from SUNY Binghamton. He is a New York State Certified Public Accountant.
Robert Ochoa is the HR Lead of Legalist. He is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) with six years of professional experience.
Robert previously worked for SpaceX as a Benefits Analyst and was hired as the first human resources employee at The Boring Company. At The Boring Company, Robert managed a team of HR professionals and oversaw all functions of HR such as workers compensation, employee relations, benefits, compensation, payroll, recruiting, and culture.
Robert received his B.B.A. in Business Management from Baylor University.
